Sponsored Post: Review of mmobux - Wednesday, May 02, 2007

mmobux is a MMORPG currency research site that launched its beta just two weeks ago. The site helps its users find information on buying and selling virtual world currency, such as WoW gold. The site provides three main features:
  • The ability to quickly list real-money prices for buying in-game gold for World of Warcraft, including both US and EU servers. The price list is easy to use and intuitive. It looks like in the future they'll expand to include games other than just WoW. However, the prices in their database appear to be a bit outdated. The first gold price I checked (Drenden-US) lists IGE selling 5k gold for $739.85, and Team-VIP selling 5k gold for $704.20, however they're actually selling 5k gold for around $400 and $300 respectively. While some price discrepancies are expected, the price mmobux lists is nearly double the actual current price for those two sites.
  • A reputation and feedback system for the gold-selling companies. This is a great idea, as there are definitely some less-than-trustworthy gold sellers on the Internet. Their list is very comprehensive -- it includes every gold-seller I've ever heard of, and plenty that I've never heard of until now. However a problem with their reputation system is that anyone can leave feedback for any company. There is no verification that a purchase, or attempted purchase, of currency actually took place. Other feedback systems, such as eBay, require that a purchase actually take place before leaving feedback.
  • A forum to discuss all things related to buying virtual currency.
Overall their site is nicely laid out, very quick, and for being only two weeks old looks great!

I don't know how else to contact you, but some of the flight paths you have in Outland (alliance flight paths) are incorrect. I was following your outland map flight paths to get to these FP's for the very first time, but couldn't find them because its incorrect in some places.

Blade's Edge Mountain (alliance):
Evergrove/Ruuan Weald FP (61,39) is NOT listed at all.
Toshley's Station FP (60,69) is incorrect, the map shows this flight path on the other side of a mountain west of where it really is.

Netherstorm:
Area52 Flight Path (33,63) is shown incorrectly on your map too far north of where it really is.

Thank you for making such a wonderful map! I love it, use it alot since I'm still exploring, and think its awesome it can tell me where to farm ore/herbs. I hope you can fix these FP's in the future, thank you.

Thanks for the helpful feedback.

We now have weekly updates in place, so price discrepancies are not quite as large as in earlier versions. Still, they are larger than we want to have them, so this will be priority number one in June.

As for feedback - that's one of the community areas we first would like to see develop before we make any major changes.

We will implement our own rating system based on hard and soft facts from seller surveys and evaluations. In short: We test bigger sellers ourself and use the data from other reliable sources to provide a more accurate editorial review of the different shops. However, that comes after uptodate prices.

Thanks for the helpful feedback - please keep it coming!
